The H-Index – Sept 1st Publication
The new book from Martin Weller, The H-Index, is due to be published on the 1st September. The book is the second in the Cursed Coast series, after The Recluse Rules. The Cursed Coast novels all take place on the Welsh coast, but are independent stories (although the eagle eyed may spot the occasional Easter egg as they exist within the same universe).
The H-Index tells the story of five academics on a writing retreat in Marloes, in Pembrokeshire. There they experience a storm that cuts off their farmhouse. The storm is part of a confluence of events that leads to the summoning of an ancient figure of Welsh folklore, the Hen Wrach.
The book is described as academic horror and combines some of the publish-or-perish forced productivity of modern academia, agile “writing scrums,” and tenure politics with a deeper, more natural horror arising from the local wetlands.
